A launching ceremony for a universal dry bulk carrier M/V Kolomna-1 was held at the Port of Kolomna’s own shipyard, the company said.
The lead ship in a series of M 3.0 class vessels. The construction is being implemented in line with a long-term program of building large-capacity non-self-steered and self-propelled vessels. The shipyard will lay down each year one ship of each type.
The vessel capable of carrying seventy 40’ containers and 3,500 tons of bulk cargoes (class 'O' basins) simultaneously will be commissioned into service in about six weeks after outfitting, dock-side and sea trials.
The shipyard also held an official keel-laying ceremony for the sister ship of the series, the M/V Kolomna-2. The vessel is scheduled for completion before June 2013.
JSC Port of Kolomna is a diversified river transport company, which was originated back in 1858. The company turned into a joint-stock company in January 1994. The Port of Kolomna owns a fleet of more than 100 units, including tugboats, self-powered vessels of "Oka" class, suction dredges, floating cranes and passenger ships of "Moscow" class.
