Cyclone disrupts Hong Kong Port, airport operations

Hong Kong and southern China face port and airport disruption today and Tuesday as typhoon Vicente hits land, the Journal of Commerce reported.

The eighth tropical cyclone of the year sent workers in Hong Kong home earlier Monday as financial markets and government services were closed down.

Paul Tsui, chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics, said maritime terminals and Hong Kong International Airport suffered temporary disruptions.

”At the port, all container release and gates are temporarily frozen at the moment and shall only resume normal operations after the typhoon leaves Hong Kong,” he said.
Cathay Pacific Airways said it was expecting some disruption to passenger and freighter services today and Tuesday.

Gale-force winds and heavy seas are expected to continue into Tuesday. The Hong Kong Transport Department warned that a number of bridges including the Shenzhen Bay Bridge might need to be closed.
