DHL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the City of Chengdu in China to develop a logistics master plan to improve the city's logistics infrastructure, Daily Shipping Times reports.
As per the MoU, DHL's cross-divisional unit DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation will analyze the supply chain of consumer goods from various sectors that include super markets, wholesale markets and franchised stores.
Analysis of traffic flows for goods coming in and out of the city and between its districts will help to reduce congestion, improve air quality and improve efficiency in logistics for city businesses.
DHL will deploy urban freight centers that decrease freight traffic, increase the quality of air, improve efficiency and service quality.
DHL director of Solutions & Innovation Mr. Jorg Hanser said, "With the research, DHL will be able to gain a good understanding of the challenges of the Chinese city to develop a tailor-made City Logistics solution that meets Chengdu's specific needs and can also be seen as a model for other megacities in China."
