Caspian Flotilla frigate undergoing trials successfully hits target

During the second phase of state trials of the Gepard-class frigate Dagestan successfully fired a missile and hit a shore-based target, the Southern Military District press service said.

The high-precision missile, flying about 100 nm (180 km), struck the 32.8 ftx32.8ft (10x10 m) target (a building), the so-called command post of a potential enemy.

Sea test range encompassing 2600 km, where the trials took place, was closed to civilian shipping. This task was performed by about 20 warships and support vessels of the Caspian Flotilla.

The Gepard class-frigate of Project 1166.1K Albatros (later renamed Dagestan) was built at Zelenodolsk Zavod Shipyard. The warship is designed to combat underwater, surface and air crafts when performing complex tasks. This is the first Russian warship armed with versatile missile system Kaliber-NK ASM, which is able to use several types of high-precision missiles against surface and shore-based targets at ranges up to 300 km.
