Port of Tuapse throughput down 12.4% in H1

Cargo traffic at Tuapse Commercial Seaport (TMTP) in the first half of 2012 totaled 8.5 million tons, or a 12.4% decline from a year earlier, the company said.

As the export flows were redirected to other ports shipments of oil products through Tuapse slumped by 29%, to 5.2 million tons. At the same time the stevedore company boosted dry bulk cargo handling by 38%, to 3.3 million tons. Shipments of grain in the reporting period soared by ninefold to 1.1 million tons.

In the reporting period, TMTP was handling metals - 646,000 tons. Coal exports fell 7% to 1.5 million tons.

Overall, exports, which account for the bulk of cargo traffic passing through the TMTP’s terminals dropped by 8% to 8.4 million tons. Imports of raw sugar plummeted by 94% on the last year’s six-month figure to 27,000 tons.

In January-June 2012, the company handled 408 cargo ships (242 – dry bulk carriers, 166 - oil tankers) and 50,000 rail cars.

Tuapse Commercial Sea Port JSC (TMTP), founded in 1994, is the main stevedore company operating at one of the largest ports in Russia - the Port of Tuapse. UCL Holding (65.06%) and Russian Government (25%) are major stockholders of TMTP.
