Taganrog port half-year throughput up 15 percent

Freight traffic at Taganrog Commercial Seaport (TCSP, TMTP) in the first half of 2012 totaled more than 690,000 tons, or a 15-percent gain compared with the same period last year, the stevedoring company.

Handling of imported cargo rose 28% to 124,000 tons, exports soared by 41% to 514,000 tons, while short-sea traffic slumped by 2.7 times to 52,000 tons.

General cargo shipments exceeded last year's numbers by 11% to about 140,000 tons. In particular, the handling of metals surged by 2.5 times to 29,000 tons. During January-June 2012 the stevedore transshipped over 15,000 tons of pipes (the cargo was not handled last year).

Shipments of dry bulk cargo increased by 29% to 438,000 tons. Coal exports rose 11% to 325,000 tons. The six-month volume of ore was up 5% to 40,000 tons. Grain exports surged by 6.2 times to 78,000 tons. Liquid bulk shipments shrank by 20% to 113,000 tons.

Container traffic amounted to 8,200 TEUs.

In the reporting period Taganrog Commercial Seaport handled 213 ships and 8,289 rail cars.

JSC Taganrog Commercial Seaport is the main stevedoring company of the port of Taganrog, which operates at Births Number 1- 5, 7-8. The main shareholder of TMTP is UCL Port, a stevedoring division of UCL Holding, controlling scores of stevedoring assets in the South and the North-West of Russia.  In 2011, the company handled 1.4 million tons of cargo.
