Baltic Coal Terminal throughput rises 28.35 percent
Coal transshipments through Ventspils-based Baltic Coal Terminal in January-August 2012 rose by 28.35 percent year-over-year to 3,523,800 tons, the stevedore company said.
In August, coal handling at the facility jumped 23% from last year’s numbers to 529,760 tons.
Baltic Coal Terminal is a JV of two companies: CJSC MPO Kuzbass and Ventspils Commercial Sea Port. In 2010, coal throughput at the terminal amounted to about 2 million tons. Currently, the coal handled at the BCT’s terminal is exported largely to the UK, Belgium, Spain and Morocco. The terminal’s indoor warehouse allows simultaneous storage of 210,000 tons of coal, (capacity - 6 m t/y). The two companies have invested in the first phase of the terminal EUR 80 million.
