CSSC Chengxi Shipyard wins bumper orders for bulkers
China-based CSSC Chengxi Shipyard is wrapping up the year with several orders for dry bulk newbuildings to keep its yard busy in 2013, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The Beijing-headquartered company won orders to build four 39,500-dwt handysize bulkers from Swire-owned China Navigation Company. The latest orders followed an earlier contract signed in March this year for four bulkers of 39,500 dwt each. The vessels are scheduled for delivery between the second half of 2014 and the first half of 2015.
The shipyard and China Navigation have also agreed to an additional eight options to be declared in 2013.
CSSC Chengxi Shipyard also clinched orders to build three 48,500-dwt bulkers for Jiangsu Ligang Power. The newbuildings are slated to be delivered from April 2014.
The Chinese yard also penned an order to build one 65,000-dwt bulk carrier for Guangzhou Maritime Transport, a subsidiary of China Shipping Group.
A senior official from CSSC Chengxi Shipyard said its current orderbook will satisfy yard utilisation in 2013. But he added that the orders were won at low prices, prompting a need for the yard to exercise stringent costs control and raise production efficiency.
