In January 2009, port St. Petersburg handled 2.968.2 million tonnes of cargo (-28%, year-on-year), the port’s Administration states. In the reported period, transshipment of dry bulk totaled 444,800 tonnes (-39%) including 53,900 tonnes of ore (4.5 times down year-on-year), 193,400 tonnes of coal and coke (up 129 times), 197,500 tonnes of mineral fertilizers (down 2.4 times).
Transshipment of dry loose cargo fell 11 times to 2,600 tonnes, timber – down 4.6 times to 25,900 tonnes.
Transshipment of general cargo fell by 23% to 699,400 tonnes including 233,100 tonnes of ferrous metal (up 15%), 124,900 tonnes of non-ferrous metal (+26%), 17,600 tonnes of scrap metal (down 6.3 times). Transshipment of package goods amounted to 36,900 tonnes (-29%), refrigerated cargo 174,700 tonnes (down 1.7 times), other general cargo - 112,300 tonnes (-20%).
The port’s container throughput amounted to 89,367 TEUS (-35%). Transshipment of oil cargo decreased by 4% to 919,200 tonnes. In the reported period, turnover of vessels in the port totaled 825 units.
