Guangxi ports container volume increases by 35.7pc to 529,700 TEU y-o-y

Ports in Guangxi, southeast China, experience 12.8 per cent year on year growth handing 127 million tons of cargo. including 529,700 TEU, up 35.7 per cent, each category representing record highs, reports Xinhua.
The autonomous region's coastal ports registered 12.5 per cent growth in cargo to 80.89 million tons and a 22.6 per cent growth in container volume to 336,000 TEU, while its major port of this kind Fangcheng port's throughput reached 37 million tons with a hike of 22.1 per cent.
The region's river ports experienced a 13.3 per cent increase in cargo volume to 46.76 million tons and 66.4 per cent hike in box volume to 194,000 TEU, while its main port of this kind Kuigang port handled 17.97 million tons of cargo, up 17.7 per cent.
The continuing advancements and buildings in the Western Development, China-ASEAN Free-trade Area and the opening-up in Beibu Gulf in recent years have brought about huge development opportunities to Guangxi, said Mr Huang, the director of Guangxi Transport Department.
