Fujian's January container throughput declined 10.6pc to 545,800 TEU in January

Seaports on the coast of China's Fujian province moved 545,800 TEU in January, down 10.6 per cent compared to the same month in 2008, Xinhua reported.
Port of Fuzhou accounted for 86,600 TEU, down 13.1 per cent. Port of Xiamen handled 382,500 TEU, falling 10.2 per cent.
Overall throughput tonnage of these ports totalled to 20.6 million tonnes, down 0.7 per cent, taking up 6.9 per cent of the annual target.
Fuzhou port's throughput rose 12.5 per cent to 5.28 million tonnes. Xiamen port's dropped 11.1 per cent to 7.17 million tonnes.
In the same month, the province's road freight volume rose 9.8 per cent to 46.4 million tonnes. Turnover volume went 2.9 per cent up to 3.1 billion tonnes per kilometre.
The province has worked out a development plan for its sea ports, according to which the container throughput of these ports will reach 11 million TEU and cargo throughput tonnage will reach 300 million tonnes by 2010, while by 2020, the container throughput will reach 28 million TEU.
According to the plan, the province will see throughput of two of its ports exceed 100 million tonnes by 2010 and three by 2020.
