FESCO diesel-electric ship “Vasiliy Golovnin” finished its trip to Antarctica

FESCO diesel-electric ship “Vasiliy Golovnin” finished its trip to Antarctica, where it delivered cargo and members of a polar expedition from Argentina to four polar stations. Now dry cargo ship has left the South Pole of the planet, as the press secretary of the shipping company Lina SHAROVA reported to RIA PrimaMedia.

The dry cargo ship with a large lot of cargo and members of a polar expedition left Buenos Aires and went to Antarctica on the 3 of January. The crew of “Vasiliy Golovnin” delivered cargo and members of a polar expedition to Argentina stations “General Belgrano II”, “Orkadas”, “Jubani”. The last in the list was the station “San-Martino”.

All four antarctic stations of Argentina don’t have moorages, that’s why cargo from the board of diesel-electric ship were delivered to the continent by two Primorye crews on the helicopters “KA-32”. Cargo operations on the fourth station “San-Martino” lasted more than three and a half days. Flights of the helicopters, which delivered cargo, were complicated by wind and snow. On the night of Sunday the dry cargo ship left the station “San-Martino” and made for Argentina. It is planned that it will arrive there by the 7 of March.

“Cargo flight operations on all four polar stations of Argentina were carried out in bad weather conditions,” said Lina SHAROVA. “The helicopters delivered fuel in barrels, provision and scientific equipment during snowstorm. Only  skills and coolness helped airmen to complete all the tasks without any accidents.

As the press secretary of the shipping company mentioned, this expedition of “Vasiliy Golovnin” to

antarctic stations of Argentina is the second one. The first was successfully carried out in winter 2008. All cargo operations on the four stations were also carried out by Russian helicopter pilots.
