Associated Danish Ports posts 2008 results

Associated Danish Ports (ADP), the parent company behind the port operations in Fredericia, Middelfart and Nyborg, had a nice 2008 with growth of several types of cargo. At Fredericia there was a substantial growth in the container traffic, which was up by 45 per cent during the year. Also the handling of agricultural products saw a growth from 143,000 tons to 460,000 tons. The shipment of crude oil from the Danish North Sea (transported via a pipeline to Fredericia) fell by eight per cent, equal to 900,000 tons. The decline is due to falling production on older oil fields in the Danish sector.
At Nyborg, the cargo volume grew with a few per cent to 740,000 tons, but with much better prospects as the dredging company NCC has chosen to use Nyborg as its centre for discharge of reclaimed stone from the sea. Also ADP signed a contract for shipments of wind turbines for the sea-power station at Rødsand II, which is going to commence in april 2009. Presently ADP is investing in more quay lenght in order to serve the installation ships. Another 90 metres of quay will be added.
