Attending the protest meeting renowned trade union leader of state and HMS president Rajendra Prasad Singha blamed union government neglecting major ports employees wage settlement since the old wage settlement agreement has lapsed validity from 31 December 2006.
All 5 major port federations as HMS, CTUC, INTUC and AITUC have apprised union shipping and transport department many times to start a wage negotiation committee and follow the recently announced sixth pay commission recommendations towards the wage fixations of major ports employees but central UPA government ignored to act meaningfully and lastly jumped to upcoming general elections as consequence the employee have been suffering years and getting old pay scale when other industrial sectors have revised pay and perks of employee coinciding sixth pay commission reports to central government employees looking no way federations decided to go on strike from 10 March , president Singha informed.
Speaking on the occasion Sudhakar Mantry , working president Paradip dock and transport union and Paradip port and workers union reveled that acting on the federations complaint recently union shipping ministry and central labour commissioner have called 12 representatives of 5 major port federations for discussion on 9 March at New Delhi for starting of wage negotiation committee and federations have agreed to attend the meeting but proposed meeting would not hurt the proposed strike on 10 March , he said.
Sources said thousands of HMS affiliated employees and workers had taken part in the meeting and criticized the union government’s dilly dying attitude towards their grievances among others veteran trade union leaders as Ananta Kumar Das, Niranjan Swain, Praffula Khuntia, Amrut Das spoke on the occasion.
