In January-February 2008, the port of Tallinn handled 4.713.6 million tonnes of cargo (-7.2%, year-on-year), the port informs. In the reported period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 3.811.5 million tonnes (+7.2%), general cargo – 43,300 tonnes (-50.4%), dry cargo – 284,100 tonnes (-55.3%).
The port’s container throughput amounted to 23,216 TEU (-12.1%). Foreign trade export-import amounted to 3.729.2 million tonnes (-9.6%), including 374,800 tonnes of export (-18.8%) and 3.354.4 million tonnes of transit (-8.4%). Internal export-import increased by 2.8% to 959,800 tonnes including 350,200 tonnes of import cargo (-33.4%) and 609,600 tonnes of transit cargo (+49.7%).
Commercial Seaport of Tallinn is a large cargo and passenger seaport located at the southern shore of the Tallinn Bay. It was founded in 1219. Tallinn is the third largest port of the Baltic Sea after St. Petersburg and Primorsk. The port consists of 5 port ones: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2008, the port handled 29.077 million tonnes.
