Total investment into construction of Sochi port to exceed RUR 12.9 bln

Total investment into construction of Sochi port (including that of Basic Element and the state) will exceed RUR 12.9 bln, PortNews IAA learnt from Yuri Tyamushkin, head of Basic Element port  authority, over RUR 6.5 bln will be spent for the port construction, some RUR 6.4 bln – for construction of breakwater piers. A tender has been announced for purchase of cranes and port equipment. Some RUR 1.8 bln is to be spent for that purpose.


As PortNews IAA reported earlier, Basic Element subsidiary Port of Sochi Imeretinskiy JSC obtained a RUR 4-bln credit from Vnesheconombank  for construction of the port’s cargo district at the mouth of Mzymta river.

As PortNews IAA learnt from Sergei Semenov, Development Director of Morstroitechnology (design organization), the port is to start operation as early as in late 2009. Design capacity is 5 million tonnes of cargo per year. In 2010 the throughput is expected to make 2 million tonnes. The port is to handle cement, crushed stone, rolled metal and general cargo. Al in all there will be 8 berths including 3 berths for dry bulk and 5 berths for general cargo. The depth is to make 9.2 m, vessel length - 140 m. 

Construction of south-western and western protecting structures as well as dredging and coast-protection work is within the competence of RorMorRechFlot.
