In the reported period, transshipment of coal fell 2.81 times to 53,500 tonnes, scrap metal –over 2-fold to 5,100 tonnes, fertilizers – 2.63 times to 24,700 tonnes, cast iron – by 25.9% to 106,500 tonnes, grain – 2.83 times to 3,100 tonnes, other – 3.93 times to 15,600 tonnes.
However turnover of rolled metal increased by 4.65% to 191,100 tonnes, heavy fuel oil – by 6% to 125,900 tonnes.
In the reported period, transshipment of meet and fish totaled 4,000 tonnes, cement - 4,900 tonnes, packaged fertilizers - 3,100 tonnes (the above types of cargo were not handled by the company in January-February 08).
Throughput of Kaliningrad port as a whole fell by 31.7%, year-on-year, to 1.9441 million tonnes including 1.053 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-36.8%) and 891,00 tonnes of other cargo (-24.5%).
Kaliningrad is the western-most port of Russia, located at the South-Eastern part of the Baltic Sea at the mouth of Pregolia river. The port with the round-the-year navigation is connected with the sea by Kaliningrad Marine Canal. The port has 20 berths with total length exceeding 3 kilometers. The depth at 18 cargo berths is from 8 to 9 meters. In 2008 the port handled 15.3689 million tonnes including 4.7727 million tonnes handled by Kaliningrad Sea Commercial Port OJSC.
