In January-February 2009, container throughput of Big Port St. Petersburg fell by 39%, year-on-year, to 178,000 TEU, St. Petersburg Seaport Administration reports. It should be noted that First Container Terminal CJSC handled 70% of all containers, Petrolesport OJSC accounts for 13.8% of the port’s container throughput.
Transshipment of mineral fertilizers (Baltic Bulker Terminal CJSC) fell by 51% to 459,000 tonnes.
In the reported period, transshipment of ore fell by 69% to 95,000 tonnes, while turnover of coal and coke increased 2.1 times to 360,500 tonnes.
Forth Stevedoring Company CJSC accounts for 90% of ore transshipment and 100% of coal and coke transshipment in the port (the company is a part of Sea Port of Saint Petersburg OJSC).
In the 2-month period transshipment of ferrous metal climbed by 21% to 529,900 tonnes, non-ferrous metal – by 4% to 224,500 tonnes. 52% of ferrous metal was handed by First Stevedoring Company CJSC (part of Sea Port of Saint Petersburg OJSC) and 42% - by Neva-Metal CJSC. Transshipment of non-ferrous metal in the port is carried out by Second Stevedoring Company CJSC (part of Sea Port of Saint Petersburg OJSC). Transshipment of scrap metal fell by 85% to 42,900 tonnes.
Transshipment of refrigerated cargo decreased by 41% to 383,500 tonnes with 27.5% of them handled by Sea Fishing Port LLC, 16.6% - by Terminal-Service LLC.
Turnover of oil products (Petersburg Oil Terminal CJSC) fell by 1% to 1.8 million tonnes.
Transshipment of grain (First Stevedoring Company CJSC) fell by 72% to 18,600 tonnes, timber – by 89% to 28,600 tonnes, food products – by 89% to 500 tonnes, packaged cargo – by 0.3% to 99,700 tonnes, other general cargo – by 25% to 226,900 tonnes.
In the reported period, turnover of vessels in port St. Petersburg totaled 1,598 units (805 incoming and 793 outgoing).
