Kherson seaport to cut cargo handling by 13.31% to 3.7 mln t in 2009

In 2009, Ukrainian state company Commercial Seaport of Kherson plans to cut cargo handling by 13.31%, year-on-year, or 0.568 mln t to 3.7 million tonnes, the port’s press center says according to Ukrrudprom.
In January 09 the port handled 0.212 million tonnes of cargo, in February — 0.222 million tonnes.
In 2008, the port increased its throughput by 10.69%, or 0.412 million tonnes, year-on-year, to 4.268 million tonnes.
By the end of 2015, the port plans to increase cargo handling by 64.17%, or 2.736 million tonnes, against 2008, to 7 million tonnes.
Commercial Seaport of Kherson with round-the-year navigation is located on the right side of the Dnepr, some 15 kilometers from its mouth. The port’s quay line is some 1.6-km long. The port’s design capacity is 5 million tonnes of cargo per year. Mineral fertilizers and chemicals account for over 40% of the port’s throughput with 40% falling on grain cargo. The port also handles pig-iron, ferrous alloys, ferrous metal, peat and timber.
