Crew of OMG Gatchina declares a strike caused by arrears amounting to EUR 109,000

Russian crew of OMG Gatchina, which was carrying fertilizers to France, has declared a strike, infox.ru reports with reference to Sud Ouest. The crew (14) calls on the ship owner (Vyborg Shipping Company) to pay wages while the French customers are concerned about the fertilizers which are not to be unloaded before the dispute is settled according to the crew’s decision.

The strike has been lasting for over two days already. The dry cargo carrier is located in Pallis (France).

OMG Gatchina is loaded with 5,000 tonnes of fertilizers from Egypt.

According to Mikhail Vorobjev, the vessel’s captain, 12 of the crew have not received their wages from December, 2  — from November. Total debt of the ship owner amounts to EUR 109,000.

Mr. Lamad, inspector of the International Transport Federation in the name of the crew has already held negotiations with a French representative of the ship owner and with cargo owners. Mr. Lamad proposed the cargo owner (French company Athena) to pay the wages and then to demand the sum from the ship owner.

The crews of two other dry cargo carriers (located in Great Britain and in Estonia) owned by Vyborg Shipping Company also suspended their work.

The navigation zone of Vyborg Shipping Company (part of Russia-Norway holding OMG) includes the Baltic and the North Seas with calling on the ports of the North Europe. Major port of destination inRussia — Vyborg.
