Moldova's port Giurgiulesti to compete with Romanian and Ukrainian ports – Expert

Free Port Complex Giurgiulesti will create plenty of competition for similar ports in Galati (Romania) and Reni (Ukraine), IA REGNUM cites Tomas Mozer, vice-President of Easeur Holding (Netherlands), Giurgiulesti owner and operator, as telling Kishinev agency Omega. According to him, the port’s competitiveness is based on favorable customs environment ensured by Moldovan authorities. Apart from this, Giurgiulesti port is a private investment project unlike the ports of neighboring states. As it was reported earlier, Moldova opened the first passenger seaport on March 17 within the framework of International Free Port Complex Giurgiulesti. The port’s capacity is some 300 passengers per day. The work on construction of International Free Port Complex Giurgiulesti commenced in 2005 with financial support of Belgian and Azeri investors. The complex includes an oil terminal. The volume of investments. The volume of foreign investments amounted to $35 mln. The grain terminal is to start operation in the nearest future ($12 mln). The construction of a commercial terminal in process. Giurgiulesti port located on Danube was commissioned on October 26, 2006. It construction lasted for 10 years. International Free Port Giurgiulesti can accept vessels with displacement of 10,000 tonnes.
