Owner of m/v Myre Seadiver (Moran security group) has published the judgment of the Federal High Court of Nigeria (juridical district of Lagos) indicting 15 Russian crew detained on October 18, 2012 at the Nigerian port Lagos. The materials of the ship owner have been provided to PortNews IAA by the Russian fund «Transport Security».
We remind that until recently Russian seamen were detained in Lagos without charges filed against them. Thanks to the efforts of Russian diplomats they were later bailed out guaranteed by Russia’s Ambassador in Nigeria and now they are at the embassy territory. According to the statement of Moran security GROUP representative (owner of the arrested vessel) all the crew is healthy and ok.
However, Transport Security fund thinks “the situation is still far from regular completion. The result of the regular court meeting scheduled for April 10, is unpredictable”.
According to the indictment, the ship, MV Myre Seadiver, and its captain, “did unlawfully enter Nigeria’s territorial waters without due clearance and declaration of the goods carried therein on board the ship”. The offences were said to be punishable under Sections 1(14) (a)(b), 27 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 LFN 2004.
