Implementation of Sabetta project’s second phase to start in July 2013

The second phase of the project on construction of port Sabetta (Yamal) is to be started in July 2013. This information was announced by Deputy Transport Minister Victor Olerski at the meeting of RosMorRechFlot (Federal Marine and River Transport Agency) Council in Moscow, PortNews IAA journalist reports.

According to Victor Olerski, the port design has been completed, the project is being considered by the ecological expertise authority, following which it is to be approved by the state expert evaluation authority Glavgosexpertiza .

“I believe that by July we will embark on the second phase of this grand project implementation,” Deputy Minister said.

The ceremonial laying of the capsule into the foundation of the new port Sabetta on the Yamal was held on July 20, 2012. The investments into the project are estimated at some RUR 75 bln including RUR 49 bln to be allocated by the state and some RUR 25 bln  – by private investors (Yamal-LNG, shareholders – NOVATEK  and Total). The Sabetta port project is a part of Yamal LNG project, which aims to develop South-Tambey gas condensate field on the Yamal Peninsula and the construction of a gas liquefaction plant with annual capacity of 15 million tonnes of LNG and up to 1 million tonnes of condensate. 

The LNG plant first phase launch is scheduled for 2016 year. The port of Sabetta will become a hub for LNG cargoes to be transported along the Northern Sea Route.
