MOL car carrier escapes pirate attack

Mitsui OSK Lines' car carrier Jasmine Ace was fired on by pirates in two high-speed boats about 480 miles (about 900km) east of Somalia at the weekend.
The ship's hull was damaged in the attack, MOL said in a statement. The vessel accelerated and took evasive action, and after about 40 minutes the pirates gave up the chase.
No one was injured in the attack, and no oil leaked from the hull. Bullets also damaged some windows in the wheelhouse, but MOL said Jasmine Ace continues under her own power, and is heading toward safer waters.
Jasmine Ace loaded cars at the port of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday and was sailing for Mombasa in the East African country of Kenya.
