Throughput of Illichivsk port (Ukraine) down 6.5% to 3.62 mln t in Jan-March'13

In January-March 2013, Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk handled 3,624,000 tonnes of cargo (down 6.5%, or 251,000 tonnes, year-on-year). According to the port’s statistics, from the start of the year it handled 463 vessels and 39,741 wagons.

As it is noted by the port’s head Aleksandr Grigorashenko, the port decreased handling of sulfur, cast iron and grain. The decline is attributed mainly to global market fluctuations. Besides, grain handling is influenced by an ambiguous situation with quotas for grain export, Grigorashenko notes.

At the same time, positive dynamics was demonstrated in the sector of container handling. Over the first quarter of the year, the port handled 51,043 TEUs (+10.4%, year-on-year).

In March, cargo handling totaled 1,056 mln t (-17%, year-on-year) including 435,000 tonnes of general cargo, 113,000 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo and 508,000 tonnes of dry bulk cargo.

SE Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk is a multipurpose international port, one of the largest ports in the Black Sea. The company operates specialized terminals and complexes capable of handling a wide range of cargoes – liquid bulk cargo, dry bulk cargo, general cargo. The port’s 29 berths can accommodate vessels of up to 100,000 tonnes in deadweight. Designed annual capacity of SCPI exceeds 30 mln tonnes.

Container throughput is 1.15 mln TEUs. From 2007 the port can simultaneously handle 3 ocean-going 300-m long container carriers of over 5,000 TEUs in capacity.
