Transport Ministry approves dates for navigation opening at RF inland waterways

On March 17 Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport approved the Program for categories of navigation equipment, terms of it operation, guaranteed dimensions of navigable passes and terms of operation for hydraulic engineering structures during navigation 2009-2011 (Order No АД-37-р), the Ministry’s press center reports.

According to the Program, the navigation at southern sections of the RF inland waterways of the Azov-and-Don Basin and Volga-Don canal opens on April 1, 2009.

On March 25, 2009, first vessels passed Kochetkovski hydraulic facilities and Volgograd gate, the Ministry reminds.

Navigation at Srednyaya and Nizhnyaya Volga will be opened on April 2. That of Moscow-Oka Basin and Verkhnaya Volga is scheduled for April 24. Volga-Baltic waterway is to be opened April 30, Ladoga lake – May 5.

State-by-stage opening of White-Sea-Onega, Severodvinsk and Pechora basins starts from the last decade of April.

Navigation at Siberian and Far Eastern rivers will start from the first decade of May depending on ice conditions.

According to Roshydromet (Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring) low water level is expected in the second quarter of 2009 at Nizhni Don and Volga-Kama cascade. Water level above the norm is expected in Yenisei and Baikal-Angara Basins. General forecast is average for a long period.
