Economy Minister of Latvia hopes to make changes within the board of Riga Port

Recently appointed Economy Minister of Latvia Artis Kampers (New Era) hopes to make changes within the board of the Port of Riga, by dismissing veteran politician Janis Straume (For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK).

In an interview to the Latvian State Television's broadcast "100. pants" (100th article) on March 26, Kampars pointed out that he intends to make changes within several state-owned companies, and mentioned the Port of Riga as an example.

According to Kampars, Straume ''does not really give any benefit to the Port of Riga'', that is why it is most likely that he will be replaced. There are more competent candidates for this post, and wider discussions are to take place between coalition partners next week.

Straume was appointed to the board of the Port of Riga in December 2006. That same month, he stepped down as chairman of the board of For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK and was voted into the party's board.
