Blasting operations start at construction site of Vostochny Port’s third phase
According to the project on construction of the third phase of Vostochny Port’s coal terminal (Primorsk Territory), blasting operations have commenced at the construction site. Their purpose is to loosen rocky ground for the territory to be occupied by storage facilities, informs Vostochny Port OJSC.
As of today, over 1 mln cubic meters of soil has been excavated at the construction site destined for the 3rd phase of the terminal.
In late 2012, Vostochny Port OJSC announced the start of works on construction of the coal terminal’s 3rd phase, which is to increase the terminal’s capacity first to 29 mln t of coal per year and then to 39 mln t of coal.
The project implies the construction of a new berth with 2 loading machines, installation of 2 tandem wagon dumpers, wagon defrosters as well as creation of four additional storage facilities equipped with 4 reclaimers and 2 stackers for storage of up to 780,000 tonnes of coal.
The 3rd phase is to become operational from early 2017.
JSC Vostochny Port is the major stevedoring company of Russia specializing in coal transshipment. As of today, export coal accounts for 98.5% of the company’s turnover with 1.5% of the coastal trade coal and 0.01% of other cargoes. The company’s assets include a Specialized Coal Terminal with conveyer equipment system and railcar unloading station and a Universal Handling Terminal which specializes in clamshell coal handling. The Terminals’ annual capacities are 14.2 mln tonnes and 3 mln tonnes respectively.
