ULSTEIN supports SOS family programme in Brazil
Ulstein Group continues as main sponsor of SOS Children’s Villages and has signed a contract to support the organisation’s family programme in Brazil with NOK 1 million in 2013, said in the company's press release.
“SOS Children’s Villages’ work is important and impressive, and we are very happy to support the work they do through their family programme in Brazil, a country in which we are active," says Torild Bugge, HR Director in Ulstein Group.
The family programme is an increasingly important part of the SOS Children’s Villages’ work, and by 2016 the goal is to help 900 000 children through the programme, which offers disadvantaged families support so that they can care for and protect their children.
The programme focusses on self-help and the goal is for the families to become self-reliant and able to care for their own children. Programme activities are chosen according to the problems in the individual local community and each family is given support based on its needs. This could be counselling, vocational training, psycho-social support, food safety and health care. The programme targets children and young people who, due to poverty and lack of financial resources, are severely neglected and exposed to violence.
ULSTEIN’s support of the family programme succeeds the company’s three-year agreement with SOS Children’s Villages from 2010 for the renovation of the Porto Alegre village in Brazil. This work has now been completed to the enjoyment of those who live and work there.
Ulstein Group has been active in Brazil since 2005 through deliveries of electrical systems and service work, as well as follow-up of the construction of ULSTEIN designed vessels at Brazilian shipyards.
