Ports of Stockholm Group Board of Directors approves implementation decision to expand the Port of Kapellskär
Preparations for the project have been ongoing for a long time and now virtually all of the permits are in place to start the rebuilding and expansion of the Port of Kapellskär; the blueprints are approved, the environmental permit granted and today the implementation decision was taken by our Board of Directors, said in the port's press release.
What remains is for the implementation decision to be ratified by the City Council and the finalization of the procurement process for contractors. It is hoped that the project start date will be towards the end of the year.
"The Stockholm region is growing rapidly. To ensure the efficient and eco-friendly provision of goods in the future we need to expand and refurbish the Port of Kapellskär. This decision means that we are creating the possibility to meet existing market demands for volumes and those of the future, as well as larger vessel sizes. Today's decision has great importance, both for the Baltic Sea region and for the environment," says Helena Bonnier (M) Chair of the Board of the Ports of Stockholm subsidiary companies Stockholms Hamn AB and Kapellskärs hamn AB.
"We already have good collaborations with the City of Stockholm and Norrtälje. Both are municipalities that are growing continuously. Today's decision will forge even closer links between us," says Helena Bonnier (M) Chair of the Board of the Ports of Stockholm subsidiary companies Stockholms Hamn AB and Kapellskärs hamn AB.
