Throughput of Sea Port Saint-Petersburg down 16% to 1.8 mln t in QI'13
In the first quarter of 2013, throughput of Sea Port Saint-Petersburg declined by 16%, year-on-year, to 1.8 mln t, the company’s press center informs.
General fall of throughput is explained by the global market demand, the statement reads. In particular, this period saw the decrease of consumption and therefore the production of ferrous metal goods being the core of the company’s cargo flow.
In January-March, transshipment of general cargo fell by 24% to 1.38 mln t. In particular, transshipment of ferrous metal dropped by 39% to 478,000 tonnes; scrap metal - by 44% to 103,000 tonnes; non-ferrous metals - by 3% to 457,000 tonnes, ro-ro cargo – by 16% to 206,000 tonnes.
Transshipment of bulk cargo gained 31% to 423,000 tonnes (mainly due to boosted transshipment of mineral fertilizers – 3.5 times to 213,000 tonnes).
The volume of export cargo handled by the port decreased by 17% to 1.36 mln t, import flow decreased by 12% to 440,000 tonnes.
