Throughput of Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg up 1.9 times to 89,958 TEUs in QI'13
In January-March, 2013, Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg handled 89,958 TEUs, up 1.9 times, year-on-year, the company says in its press release.
In the reported period, transshipment of import containers surged by 84% to 48,039 TEUs, import – by 90% to 41,919 TEUs.
In January-March, the company handled 75 vessels with average turnover of 1,199 TEUs per vessel.
The positive dynamics is reportedly driven with the increased volume of operations at railway sector and modernization of the Company’s production facilities. On January 1, 2013, the Company opened a depo of empty containers with the capacity of 2,400 TEUs. The new facility is focused on receiving, storage and issuing of empty containers for shipment by railway and motor transport. Besides, three new empty container loaders are put into operation at the facility.
Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg (part of UCL Port, stevedoring division of international transport group UCL Holding) is a container handling complex located in the forth cargo district of Big Port St. Petersburg. It covers the area of 32 hectares and its capacity is 430,000 TEUs. The terminal is focused on handling all types of export / import cargo including refrigerated cargo. In 2012, the Company’s throughput reached 326,199 TEUs.
