No state financing approved for construction of nuclear icebreakers - head of Atomflot
No decision on state financing of nuclear icebreakers construction has been made yet, IAA PortNews journalist learnt from Atomflot Director General Vyacheslav Ruksha at the round table meeting within the framework of the Murmansk Region Day. According to the source, it is explained by the requirement to attract non-state financing.
“We will get the first icebreaker in 2017 while the tenders for construction of the second and the third ones are postponed,” Ruksha said.
As it was reported earlier, on November 1, 2012, Baltiysky Zavod (St. Petersburg) commenced steel cutting for the new generation 60 MWt nuclear icebreaker of project 22220. The contract for the construction of the lead icebreaker was signed on August 23 between FSUE Atomflot, state corporation Rosatom and Baltiysky Zavod-Shipbuilding LLC. The state customer and the investor is the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, the construction management company - FSUE Atomflot.
Under the contract, the icebreaker is to be built by the end of 2017 года. According to the plan, the keel-laying is scheduled for November 2013, launch – for November 2015. The technical design was developed by design bureau Iceberg OJSC in 2009.
A decision has also been made to build two more nuclear icebreakers by 2020.
