Yantar shipyard and Arctech Helsinki Shipyard negotiate RUB 2.47-bln outfitting of 7-MW icebreaker
The general meeting of Yantar shipyard shareholders scheduled for June 25, 2013 will consider a possibility to make a deal with Arctech Helsinki Shipyard (Finland, joint venture of USC and STX) valued at RUB 2,468,457,594. According to the materials of the Kaliningrad-based Yantar shipyard, the Finnish shipyard undertakes the designing, outfitting and testing of the innovative multipurpose emergency and rescue icebreaker (intended for oil spill response and rescue operations in ice conditions) at the shipyard’s production facilities.
The vessel hull is to be built by Yantar shipyard which is to deliver to the Finnish shipyard at least 42 steel blocks and units through two shipments.
Under the supposed contract, the vessel is to be delivered on February 28, 2014. By that date the vessel is to be fully fitted out, all the tests are to be completed and all deficiencies/imperfections revealed are to be eliminated. The vessel should be fully operational.
Major characteristics of the vessel: length (without fenders) – about 74.0 m, waterline beam – about 19.2 m, waterline draught – 6.3 m, displacement – 4,350 tonnes, maximum continuous rating of the main engine (not less) 9,000 kW, rate of sailing (not less) – 14.0 knots.
Kaliningrad-based Baltic Shipbuilding Plant “Yantar” was founded on July 8, 1945 on the basis of a Koenigsberg unit of German’s Schichau Werft. Yantar Shipyard specializes in building and repairs of warships and civil boats. Throughout the years the Shipyard has built 154 warships and more than 500 merchant vessels. The Russian Government holds the majority stake in the shipbuilding firm through Western Center of Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of the state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation.
