Baltiysky Zavod to invest RUB 250 mln into energy efficiency programme by 2017
Baltiysky Zavod – sudostroyeniye LLC will invest RUB 250 mln into the energy efficiency programme in 2013-2017. According to the press center of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, this will enable the company to considerably reduce energy costs by 2018 and to pay for investments within 4-5 years.
Energy audit of the shipyard’s assets carried out in 2012 by Urenergo Group demonstrated that the company annually wastes 1.1 mln kWh of energy, 1 mln cubic m of natural gas and almost 1 mln l of water.
“The situation is sad and the cause is obvious. Not a ruble was invested into the shipyard by its private owners who managed the company till the end of 2011. Obsolete inefficient equipment, worn out networks and heat insulation… resulted in huge energy losses having their negative impact on operating costs,” says Aleksandr Voznesensky, Director General of Baltiysky Zavod – sudostroyeniye LLC.
In 2011, when the shipyard was actually idle, RUB 160 mln were spent for energy. When the shipyard entered the United Shipbuilding Corporation in 2012 it was booked with orders and the forth quarter saw a 100-pvt loading of production facilities. Therefore, energy expenses surged by 61% to RUB 230 mln. In 2013, all work shops will be fully loaded as well and the costs are expected to grow by at least 30% with the proportional increase of energy losses.
The programme on energy network modernization implies large-scale installation of economically efficient equipment.
By 2018, it is expected not only eliminate energy waste but to save 5 mln l of water, 4.9 mln kWh and 5.1 mln cub m of gas. According to preliminary calculations, energy saving will make some RUB 80 mln per year making it possible to pay for investments within 4-5 years.
Baltiysky Zavod OJSC specializes in construction of rank 1 surface-crafts, ice class vessels with nuclear and diesel-electric propulsion plants, nuclear floating energy units, floating distilling plants. In late 2011, the shipyard fell under the control of the state represented by the United Shipbuilding Corporation. To preserve the staff and the competence of the shipyard, USC founded Baltiysky Zavod – sudostroyeniye LLC.
