    Throughput of Klaipėda Port up 8.1% to 12.1 mln t in Jan-Apr’13

    The total throughput of Klaipėda Port and in Būtingės terminal within the period of January- April  of 2013 totalled 15,3 mln. tn of seaborne cargo, the change of cargo handling turnover was +10,1 pct. if to compare with the corresponding period of 2012, seaport authority release says.  The cargo handling turnover in Klaipėda Port within the analysed period reached 12,1 mln. tn, the year-on-year change was  +8,1 pct. or +0,9 mln.  tn, meanwhile 3,2 mln. tn of cargo were handled at  Butingės terminal, the year-on-year change being +18,1 pct. or +0,5 mln. tn.

    Comparing with the corresponding period of 2012 the most significant growth of cargo handling volumes in January – April of 2013 was reached due to increased handling rates of dry and bulk cargoes (the growth reached 21,3 pct. comparing with the corresponding period of 2012) including  agriculture products (+681,5 thou. tn yoy), raw sugar (bulk)  (+148,3 thou. tn yoy),  natural and chemical fertilizers (+132,1 thou. tn yoy) and raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+122,7 thou. tn yoy).

    In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of liquid cargo marked the total increase in Klaipeda Seaport and at Butingės Terminal by 11,9 pct. yoy to 7 140,9 thou. tn. The significant growth of handling rates of cargoes attributed to this cargo group has been recorded: crude oil (+18,1 pct. or +490,1 thou. tn yoy), natural and chemical fertilizers (liquid) (+29,3  pct. or +134,4 thou. tn yoy), oil products (+3,2 pct. or +100,0 thou. tn yoy), and raw sugar (molasses) (+11,3 pct. or +4,4 thou. tn yoy).

    The drop of general cargo handling volumes by 4,2 pct. in Klaipeda Seaport has started from the very beginning of the year. In total 3 410,9 thou. tn were handled in January – April of 2013 ( 22,3 pct. of overall Port handling turnover). In the group of general cargoes only the handling rates of frozen products (89,0 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was +7,2 pct. or  +6,0 thou. tn) and Ro-Ro cargoes calculating in units ( 81 163 units were handled, the yoy change was  +0,5 pct. or +377 units ) marked the increase, meanwhile the significant decrease of handling turnover was recorded in the cargo handling rates of the remaining cargo types attributed to this group of cargoes: -0,3 pct. of Ro-Ro cargoes calculating in terms of tonnage (1 526,2  thou. tn were handled, the change was -0,3 pct. or -4,4 thou. tn yoy), -31,0 pct. of natural and chemical fertilizers (packed),  -11,7 pct. of timber and forest products, -31,8 pct. of iron , steel products and metal constructions, -1,4 pct. of containerised cargoes (in terms of tonnage) if to compare with the corresponding period of 2012. The handling turnover of containerised cargoes in terms of TEU increased in January - April of 2013 and reached 129 839 TEU (+7,4 pct. or +8 988 TEU yoy).

    2 114 vessels were reported to call Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal in January – April of 2013. 32 vessels (+18,5 pct. or more by 5 vessels yoy) moored at Būtingės terminal. Klaipėda Seaport received 2 082 vessels (less by 4,9 pct. yoy) including:
    - 1 466 international vessels (less by 133 vessels or by 8,3 pct year-on-year) 
    -  616 domestic ships ( more by 25 ships or by 4,2 pct. yoy).  
    The number of passengers within the analysed period was 75 500, i.e. less by 7,2 pct. or by 5 816 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year.
