Understructure second LNG jetty in Port of Zeebrugge completed
The understructure for the second LNG jetty in the outer port of Zeebrugge has recently been completed. The construction was realized by contractor MBG from Wilrijk. The completion of these works introduce the next step in the development of the jetty, the realization of the superstructure, said in the company's press release.
With the understructure completed, Fluxys can begin to build the superstructure. For this, they have appointed the Spanish-Italian firm TS LNG as contractor, which is a joint-venture between TechInt E&C and SENER. The full completion of the jetty will take another 36 months.
The second jetty for loading and unloading LNG carriers will enter into service in 2015. The jetty will be able to accommodate both small and large LNG carriers, with capacities of between 2.000 m³ and 217.000 m³ of LNG.
With the construction of the second jetty, Port of Zeebrugge continues to evolve into a hub for the supply of LNG as a fuel for ships and long-distance haulage trucks. Port of Zeebrugge is already seeing a rise in the LNG exporting volume. When the second jetty enters into service in 2015, the new jetty will increase the flexibility in import and export.
