    Volkswagen recognizes APM Terminals Inland Services

    Volkswagen India selected APM Terminals Mumbai Container Freight Station (CFS) to receive its annual “Supplier Appreciation Award” for excellent performance during 2011 - 2012, said in the company's press release. The award is in recognition of the Inland Services operation’s help in achieving Volkswagen’s targeted logistics chain performance levels for the 110,000 vehicle capacity Chak a n auto manufacturing facility near Pune, Maharashtra . The award presentation was made by Vo l k swagen India’s Deputy General Manager of Logistics Disposition Andreas Lehma n n as part of the annual Volkswagen recognition ceremonies .

    Receiving the award on behalf of APM Terminals Mumbai CFS was APM Terminals Inland Services Head of South Asia CFS Joseph Sandiav. “APM Terminals Inland Services plays an integral part in Volkswagen India’s supply chain management and is also a key partner in their overall logistics framework”, stated Mr. Lehma n n at the award presentation . The Chak a n f acility covers a total of 2.3 million square meters (575 acres), and is l ocated approximately 120 km (75 miles) from Mumbai , India’s primary container port . T he Volkswagen plant is the only production facil ity operated by a German automaker in India which features an integrated production process from press shop through body shop and paint line through to the vehicle’s final assembly. The €580 million ($748 million USD) manufacturing facility is the largest investment by a German company in India. The Volks wagen Group, which produces the Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi and Porsche nameplates, is the world’s third - largest auto company.

    The award was given by Volkswagen India in recognition of APM Terminals Mumbai CFS’ innovative logistics solutions, reduced transpo rtation and handling costs, improved safety and security and the effective execution of Just - in - Time inventory management . Volkswagen imports approximately 25,000 TEUs into India each year. APM Terminals Inland Services South Asia is part of the APM Termi nals Global Terminal Network, operating at seven locations in India , and two in Pakistan with a total bonded yard area of 306,000 square meters (75 acres), and providing full container, CFS, refrigerated cargo, trucking, container repair and other logistic s support services. A new 73,000 square meter (18 acre s ) CFS station is scheduled to open at Vallarpadam in the southern Indian State of Ker a la in October 2013 with an annual throughput capacity of 100,000 TEUs. “Our success in meeting Volkswagen India’s specific supply chain requirements demonstrates that with effective Inland Services operations India can fulfill its tremendous potential as a global manufacturing center” said APM Terminals Inland Services South Asia Commercial General Manager Manoj Singh.
