Gazprom plans attracting Ukrainian shipyards for creation of industrial fleet
To develop new shelf fields in the territory of Russia, Gazprom has to “create a new fleet” with a part of the orders to be placed at Ukrainian shipyards, Interfax quotes Valeri Golubev, deputy Chairman of Gazprom OJSC.‘Some 20 tankers and 40 vessels for various applications are to be built or purchased by the company,” he said at the conference «Common interests of Ukraine and Russia in expansion of cooperation. Strategies for crisis overcoming» held in Kiev on Wednesday.
He reminded that during the Soviet period shipyards were traditionally located in Nikolayev and Kerch (Ukraine).
“Today Russia has to either build conceptually new shipyards or place the orders in Ukraine,” Golubev said having noted that ‘political ambitions’ are a barrier for this today.
He also added that Ukraine and Russia have 3-4 years to implement such a project.
