    Throughput of Russian seaports up 5% to 235.7 mln t Jan-May’13

    In January-May 2013, Russian seaports handled 235.7 mln t of cargo (+5%, year-on-year), Association of Commercial Sea Ports says in its press release.

    In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo totaled 98.1 mln t (-1.9%) including 39.7 mln t of coal (+14.2%), 18 mln t of containerized cargo (+3.5%), 4.9 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+19.5%). Transshipment of ferrous metal fell to 9.9 mln t (-16.5%), ore – to 3 mln t (-5.5%), timber cargo – to 1.9 mln t (-29.8%). Transshipment of grain cargo fell by 74.2%.

    Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo reached 137.6 mln t (+10.5%) including 87.3 mln t of crude oil (+10.5%).

    In the 5-month period, Russian seaports handled 187.4 mln t of export cargo (+5%), 19.6 mln t of import cargo (+15.5%), 16.2 mln t of transit cargo (-14.4%) and 12.4 mln t of coastal trade cargo (+23.6%).

    Operators of sea terminals in the Arctic Basin handled 18.7 mln t of cargo (+33.2%, year-on-year) including 9.5 mln t of dry cargo (almost the same as Jan-May’12) and 9.2 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (up 2-fold) due to increased transshipment of crude via Belokamenka terminal. Total throughput of Murmansk port amounted to 12.2 mln t (+38%), Varandey – 2.1 mln t (up 2.5 times), Vitino – 1.9 mln t (+20.5%) and Arkhangelsk – 1.9 mln t (-2.8%).

    The port of the Baltic Basin handled 87.9 mln t of cargo (+ 8%) including 32.9 mln t of dry cargo (+8.6%) and 55 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+7.7%). Throughput of Ust-Luga port reached 23.8 mln t (up 1.6 times) mainly due to the launch of new liquid bulk terminals, port Vysotsk – 6.6 mln t (+28.2%), port Kaliningrad - 6.2 mln t (+15.3%). However, the throughput of port Primorsk and Big Port St. Petersburg fell to 28.7 mln t (-12%) and 22.1 mln t (-1.7%) respectively.

    In the Black Sea Basin, the ports handled 67.2 mln t of cargo (-3.7%, year-on-year) including 21.5 mln t of dry cargo (-18.4%) with the decline of grain transshipment and 45.8 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+5.2%). The decrease was registered in the port of Novorossiysk – to 46.8 mln t (-5.4%), Tuapse – to 6.6 mln t (-18%) and Kavkaz – to 2.4 mln t (-9%) while operators of sea terminal of Taman port boosted cargo transshipment to 2.9 mln t (up 3.7 times due to the launch of new oil terminal), port Temryuk – increased the result to 0.9 mln t (+6.1%).

    The ports of the Caspian Basin saw a decrease of cargo handling by 23.5% to 3.3 mln t. Transshipment of dry cargo fell 44.8% to 1.2 mln t, liquid bulk cargo - 3.1% to 2.1 mln t. Throughput of Makhachkala port fell 9.4%, Astrakhan - 39.4%, Olya - 2.5 times.

    Throughput of Far East ports climbed 6.6% to 58.6 mln t including 33 mln t of dry cargo (+4.3%), 25.6 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+9.6%). The following port raised their throughput: Vostochny port - 19% to 20.3 mln t, Vanino – 12.8% to 9.7 mln t, Nakhodka – 8.9% to 7.7 mln t, Vladivostok - 2.3% to 5.7 mln t. Throughput of Prigorodnoye fell 3.5% to 7.1 mln t, De-Castri - 11.9% to 2.7mln t, Posiet – 10.1% to 2.2 mln t.
