British Columbia Ferries (B.C. Ferries) has announced that it will build three new intermediate-class vessels, Canada.com reports.
The new ferries will replace the Queen of Burnaby and Queen of Nanaimo. Two ferries will be capable of carrying 145 vehicles and close to 600 passengers. A third vessel is designed to carry 125 vehicles and 600 passengers.
The last ferries built, three Super-C class vessels, were made abroad, in Germany for $542 million on guaranteed contracts.
