Strengthening European rail freight transport throughout the logistics and supply chain and improving the competitive position of rail freight will be the focus of rail freight forum sessions on Wednesday 9 October during Intermodal Europe 2013 at the Hamburg Messe, Germany, the event organizer Informa said.
Director of European Rail Freight Association and Chairman of the Rail Freight Group, Lord Tony Berkeley, will be chairing the interactive sessions.
A wide variety of people from customers and operators, wagon suppliers, shipping lines, supply chain, transport and logistics professionals will attend the rail freight forums.
Because a lot of customers and operators attend, the speakers are talking to an informed audience says Lord Berkeley. Sharing views, issues and experiences can help to demonstrate the importance of ensuring that governments and the Commission, as well as regulators, understand the industry and the needs of operators and customers to enable the sector to grow.
Additional speakers at the rail freight forum will include Frank Schuhholz, Managing Director of European Rail Shuttle; Bernhard Kunz, CEO of Hupac; and Monika Heiming, Secretary General of the European Infrastructure Managers Association.
Events such as Intermodal Europe are important because everybody in the industry needs to know what is going on, says Lord Berkeley. Companies invest a lot in rail freight and expect a return on investment.
The Rail Freight Group is a representative body of the rail freight industry in the UK and has 120 corporate members. The key objective of the Rail Freight Group is to increase the volume of freight carried by rail. The organisation focuses on policy issues to ensure that Government and regulatory policies are right for the industry.
The Rail Freight Group also runs training for rail customers. Being informed by the Rail Freight Group helps to make a complex industry a bit less complex and helps companies to strike better deals. adds Lord Berkeley.
Intermodal Europe 2013 takes place from 8-10 October at the Hamburg Messe in Germany. Event organiser, Informa, has announced a new event, Intermodal Asia 2014, which will be held for the first time from 1-3 April 2014 in Shanghai.
