Throughput of port Tallinn down 4.2% to 17.2 mln t in Jan-July’13

In January-July 2013, the port of Tallinn (Estonia) handled 17.2 mln t (-4.2%, year-on-year), press center of the seaport authority says. In July, the port’s throughput climbed by 9.7% to 2.3 mln t.

In the 7-month period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo hit 12 mln t (+1.7%). The port’s container throughput gained 9.4% to 150,000 TEUs.

From the beginning go the year the port serviced 5,370,000 passengers (+3.9%). 1,158 cargo vessels and 2,922 passenger ships called on the port over the reported period.

The port of Tallinn is the forth largest port in the Baltic sea after the ports of St. Petersburg, Primorsk and Ust-Luga. It comprises four port areas: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2012, the port’s throughput fell by 19.2% to 27.4 mln tonnes.
