Large capacity tanker SCF Yenisei set out from Murmansk to Japan along NSR (photo)

On August 6, 2013, the Sovcomflot tanker Yenisei set out from Murmansk to Japan along the Northern Sea Route, the Group’s press center says.

This 47,000-dwt vessel of MR type ice class Ice-1А (Arc4) will deliver light oil products to the port of Chiba (Japan). The distance of 5,767 nautical miles is 56% less than the route via the Suez Canal (12,840 miles). The tanker has been chartered by Glencore within the framework of a long-term cooperation with Sovcomflot through s joint venture on holding and managing the fleet of product carriers. The voyage is expected to last for three weeks including some 8 days along the Northern Sea Route. 

It is the fifth voyage of Sovcomflot via Arctic. The vessel will be assisted by one of nuclear icebreakers of Atomflot FSUE. 

The tanker is to arrive in Chiba on August 29-31, 2013.
