Essar Power appoints Mr B H Ravindra as Managing Director

Essar Power announced the appointment of Mr B H Ravindra as Managing Director, Essar Power Jharkhand Limited, Tori. Essar Power, part of Essar Energy plc is a first mover among the private-sector players in the Indian power industry. Essar Power Jharkhand Limited (EPJL) is setting up a 1,800MW pit headed coal fired independent power plant at Tori in Latehar district of Jharkhand state, said in the company's press release.

Mr Ravindra, with over 24 years of multi-dimensional experience in power and infrastructure sector, rejoins Essar Power from the GVK Group, where he was Director and Head – Business Development. At GVK, he was heading the consolidation of GVK Group into power and infrastructure sector, leading the team on identification, due diligence, M&A opportunities to grow power and fuel business, and project development and management of greenfield and brownfield power projects. He was also in-charge of the Group’s interactions with regulatory and policy making authorities.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr K V B Reddy, Executive Director, Essar Power Limited, said, “Mr. Ravindra is a result oriented and a visionary leader, having comprehensive expertise in power, financial services, transportation - roads, ports and airports. He has excellent command over infrastructure sector, privatisation of power and transportation sector, and reforms in the energy sector.”

Mr Ravindra holds a Bachelor degree in electrical engineering. He has also done MBA in Finance and PhD in Business Management. Prior to GMR, he worked as the Executive Director and CEO, Krishnapatnam Power Corporation, heading project evaluation, investment decision, development for 5,500MW thermal and hydel power projects developed by Navayuga Group. He has also been with the Lanco Group as Vice President – Finance, Commercial and Business Development, where amongst other things, he headed finance, contractual/commercial, strategic, corporate planning and due diligence.  He has previously been associated with Essar Power, GMR Group Limited, ICRA Advisory Services, and Tata Consulting Engineers.
