The first express container train on August 28 2013 left the railyard of Ust -Luga Container Terminal (ULCT, Leningrad Region) and set out on its run to another container terminal based in Nizhny Novgorod - "Logoprom Sormovo," the Logoprom said in a press release.
The train carries 77 containers (76 FEUs and 1 TEU) with KD kits for Volkswagen assembly plant, located at Gorky Automobile Plant (part of GAZ Group).
The is the first train in the strategic project between GAZ Group and Logoprom Group, which includes receiving express container trains at Logoprom Sormovo terminal, loading / unloading and storage of containers with its further delivery to the car plant.
To receive a large number of containers in the shortest possible time Logoprom Sormovo container yard has been expanded to store over 1,500 TEUs at a time.
The container trains are expected to become regular container service. The nest trains is scheduled to departure in early September of the year.
The largest container terminal in the Volga region, part of intermodal logistics complex "Logoprom Sormovo" is located in the north-western part of Nizhny Novgorod. The terminal started operations in 2007.
Logoprom Sormovo is member of a private Russian logistics company Logoprom.
