Cargo shipments through the terminals of JSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport (MMTP) in January-August 2013 increased 11.7% compared with the same 8-month period a year earlier, to 11,529,000 tonnes, the company’s head said.
According to General Director of MMTP Alexander Mas’ko in August monthly cargo throughput hit record ever high – 1,658,800 tonnes, a 12.6% gain from the same period a year before. Coal exports rose to 1,362,300 tonnes (+15.6%).
In August 2013, the port handled 45 ships, including 19 coal-laden ships (Apr. 2012 – 52 / 18) and 22,543 rail cars, including 17,395 cars with coal (20,155 / 15,855). During the same period, JSC Agrosfera handled 55.42 tonnes of fertilizer, LLC Murmansk Bulk Terminal – 204,630 tonnes of dry bulk cargoes.
Consolidated cargo volume of the three stevedoring companies of Murmansk Commercial Seaport reached 1,918,850 tonnes.
OJSC Murmansk Commercial Seaport was founded in 1994. MMTP operates 17 berths of total length of about 3 km. The waters depths allow the port to accommodate vessels with draft of 15.5 m and length of more than 265 m. The company specializes in handling a broad range of cargos including non-ferrous metals and alloys in packages, rolled ferrous metals, coal, apatite concentrate, alumina, and scrap and iron ore pellets in bulk, chemical products in bags and big-bags, construction cargo and foodstuff. In 2012, cargo throughput at MMTP’s terminals was 15.69 million tonnes.
