Almaz lays down second floating crane of project 02690 (photo release)

Shipbuilding firm Almaz today, September 2 2013 laid keel of the second sea-going floating crane of project 02690 (Yard No 901), the PortNews correspondent reports from the ceremony.

Almaz was awarded a contract for a series of nine 02690 project cranes from the Ministry of Defense in the spring of 2013.

The cranes were designed by St. Petersburg-based SpetsSudoProekt. The vessel is intended for all kinds of lifting operations, loading of hazardous cargo onto surface ships, submarines and ships, handling of general cargo, for installation and removal of equipment at offshore anchorage, and cargo transport on the vessel’s upper deck.

Ship’s specifications:

Full displacement - 2,000 tonnes, length overall - about 50 m, breadth - about 22 m, cruising range - 3500 miles, endurance - 10 days, lifting capacity 35-150 tonnes, crew - 22.

Almaz General Director Leonid Grabovets said the shipbuilding firm will secure yet another six cranes contract, after the completion of the current order.

Shipbuilding Company Almaz was founded in 1933 as a shipbuilding unit of of USSR Coast Guard. Today Almaz is a modern manufacturer of the state-of-the-art military equipment. The company specializes in the construction of JHSV and high-speed interception / patrol boats, large and small ships, of high-specification air-cushion vehicles (ACV), civil boats and yachts for domestic customers and for export.

The company provides a broad range of maintenance, repair services and refitting of ships. The firm has two floating docks of carrying capacity of 3,000 tonnes and 2,500 tonnes, accordingly.
