Coal shipments through Ventspils-based Baltic Coal Terminal in January-August 2013 shrank by 14.2% from the same period a year ago, to 3,240,903 tonnes, the terminal operator told PortNews.
Coal volumes transshipped at the facility in August plunged 65.7% to 182,213 tonnes.
Baltic Coal Terminal is a JV of AS Ventspils Tirdzniecibas Osta и SIA Indtec Baltic Coal Ltd., the latter representing the interests of coal supplier and owner OJSC Zarechnaya Mine.
In 2012, coal throughput at the terminal totaled 4,8 million tonnes. The coal cargo handled at the BCT’s terminal is exported largely to the UK, Germany, Poland and other countries. The terminal’s indoor warehouse capacity allows simultaneous storage of 210,000 tonnes with overall capacity reaching 6 million tonnes a year. The two companies have invested in the first phase of the terminal EUR 80 million.
