Antwerp Port Authority has run its second seminar for ‘Young Potentials’ in logistics at the end of the summer. The two-day event was organised on 28 and 29 August 2013 for logistics professionals from the steel, non-ferrous metals and chemical sectors, the Port Authority said in a press release.
Steel and chemical sectors are both important contributors in the Port of Antwerp’s value added contribution to the Belgian economy, which stands currently above 5 % of total Belgian GDP. These sectors were combined in this seminar in order to provide the participants with a broader perspective and insight into the many activities in the port area.
The event attracted more than 60 participants from 30 major (petro)chemicals, steel and non-ferro companies located in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and France. All had in common an appetite for information and a desire to get to know better the port’s many aspects.
The even participants were honoured with a Certificate of Expertise.
Buoyed by the success of its first two seminars, Antwerp Port Authority wishes to continue the organisation of this introduction programme on a bi-yearly basis and plans also to expand the focus with additional sectors of industry.
The Port of Antwerp aims to further strengthen its position as the leading European port in the steel, non-ferrous metals and chemical sector with this close encounter event with its shippers. Antwerp is Europe’s busiest port for break bulk traffic and is host to the continent’s largest and most diverse petrochemical cluster.
